Sarasota County is located on the West Coast of Florida, about 60 miles south of Tampa. The county's approximately 600 square miles extend west from rustic ranch land to the shores of the Gulf of Mexico and Sarasota Bay. With more than 35 miles of gulf beaches, residents are within a 15-minute drive of the most spectacular white sand beaches in the world. The average year-round temperature is a pleasant 72 degrees; averaging 61.5 degrees in January and 80 degrees in August. The average annual rainfall is 60 inches.  The City of Sarasota and it’s surrounding communities offer a diversity of neighborhoods to suit every taste and budget, each with a unique personality.   As an area of culture, creativity and high tech, Sarasota County is served by a variety of local, national and international media outlets. Both businesses and residents take advantage of the latest technological advances in high-speed, extended capacity telecommunications services. The area has one of the highest concentrations of personal computer owners in the world. Television stations serving our area include ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC affiliates, public television and local news channels. Ten radio stations are located within Sarasota County, with 40 more stations in neighboring counties, including all major affiliates. Formats ranges from all-news to jazz, sports, classical, country, rock, Hispanic, and contemporary. Sarasota has its own daily newspaper, the Sarasota Herald-Tribune, which has multiple zoned editions serving the area, along with a 24-hour television news station, SNN. Local weekly publications include the Longboat Observer, Siesta Key's Pelican Press and a business newspaper, the Gulf Coast Business Review. Residents can receive door-to door delivery of nearly every major national and international newspaper.
